One of the suggestions was to make a hydroponic garden where our class could grow different kinds of plants. A hydroponic system uses only water and no soil.
Firstly, we drew out a plan on a Google doc. A few days later it was parents evening and Philip’s Dad volunteered to help make the whole hydroponic system. A few weeks later the hydroponic garden was delivered at our school for 6 V's class garden. It is so exciting to have this opportunity in our classroom.
Firstly the company brought the hydroponic system to school, sorted out all the pieces and put it together. We then connected the power timer (the water pump only needs to be on for 15 minutes every hour, and not at all during the night) When on, water is pumped to the top pipe and gravity makes the water flow down through the rest of the pipes, keeping the plant roots wet. We put seeds into pots with some coconut husk.
In our class we planted lettuce, basil and tomatoes. In the future we plan to try different kinds of plants in our Hydroponic system.
