Thanh Hung Pham won an ‘Honourable Mention’ for representing the USA in the World Trade Organisation, Katie Nguyen won ‘Outstanding Delegate’ for her role as South Africa in UNESCO, and Wil Do won ‘Best Delegate’ for portraying Kim Il-Sung in the Historical Crisis Council's simulation of the Korean War.
Our leaders of the future shared their experiences of participating in the FOBISIA MUN, as well as the skills they learnt and developed along the way:
“Participating in the MUN conference as a delegate of the United States was a tough but interesting experience that taught me a lot about diplomacy, negotiating, and global issues. The conference was lively and engaging, with numerous debates, motions, and amendments. The chance for me to work with other delegates to find common ground and answers to global situations was extremely challenging, but also made the conference really enjoyable. Through this conference, I have developed my skills and knowledge in international relations, and helped to foster my understanding of the position of a diplomatic individual.”
Thanh Hung Pham (representing USA), Honourable Mention, World Trade Organisation
“Participating in the FOBISIA MUN was one of the best decisions I have made. Meeting and interacting with talented international diplomats from all over Asia, listening to their inspiring speeches, and having the opportunity to work collaboratively with them was such an astonishing experience as a first-time delegate. In my committee, UNESCO, debates, caucuses, and discussions were fruitful and intense, but at the same time informative and challenging. Through this conference, I’ve seen how my public speaking and debating skills have improved and developed significantly. Furthermore, I've also developed my coordinating skills with other delegates to solve an issue in the most effective way. Overall, the experience was remarkably memorable and inspiring for many individuals including myself.”
Katie Nguyen (representing South Africa), Outstanding Delegate, UNESCO
“What I really enjoyed about this wonderful event was the fact that so many schools from so many countries across our region and continent dedicated resources and energy to come all the way to my city and participate. The Historical Crisis Council comprised delegates from different schools from different nations, including delegates all the way from Sri Lanka. From this event, I think I have developed a skill that is beneficial to my future and that is coordinating with my team; the reality was that one person cannot win a whole war, it must need a team with different people and different tasks to keep a machine running. I have learnt to control and delegate tasks to my team effectively and efficiently.”
Wil Do (representing Kim Il-Sung, North Korea), Best Delegate, Historical Crisis Council
We are extremely proud of all three students, as well as the other delegates from BIS Hanoi, who exhibited outstanding debating skills and represented the school superbly. We hope that their MUN careers continue to go from strength to strength!
