Falling on November 20th, World Children's Day serves as a reminder to foster international unity, raise awareness among children worldwide, and prioritise their well-being. The overarching theme for this year's World Children's Day was "inclusion for every child," with a specific focus on Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities.
Secondary Student's Social Media Takeover for World Children's Day
Leading the charge were BIS Hanoi's UNICEF student ambassadors and the Global Goals CCA team. Throughout a week-long social media takeover, these young leaders embarked on a mission to explore and address various inequalities, showcasing how we can collectively shape the future. Drawing from their invaluable experience during a memorable trip to the
NAE-UNICEF Summit in New York City, the student ambassadors embraced personal growth, honed their leadership skills, and, most importantly, leveraged their platform to ensure their voices were heard.
The decision to organise a social media takeover stemmed from BIS Hanoi's commitment to nurturing global citizenship and empowering students to actively participate in building a better world. Utilising the power of social media, the students aimed to ignite meaningful conversations within the community about pressing global issues, including animal welfare, climate change, mental health, and the significance of amplifying children's voices to drive progress towards the Global Goals.
The week-long initiative culminated in a vibrant celebration of children's rights as students adorned themselves in blue attire, symbolising unity and solidarity. This collaborative effort instilled a profound sense of responsibility and empathy among the student body, inspiring them to take tangible actions towards creating a brighter and more inclusive world for all children. The Global Goals Team, comprised of Robyn, Da In, Pitt, Ye Jun, YeYoung, Hyo Lim, Mina, and Minh Anh, played a pivotal role in orchestrating this impactful event, showcasing their dedication to making a positive change in the world.
Engaging Activities & Student-led Assembly in Primary School
In our Primary school, our dedicated teachers organised engaging activities for World Children's Day, promoting awareness of inequality. Lessons focused on challenging stereotypes globally, with a spotlight on gender roles and occupations. Students learned about a Korean astronaut, a Japanese gymnast, and paralympians who defied expectations. Primary House captains and the student council also led an impactful World Children's Day assembly, emphasising children's rights and equality. Through thought-provoking presentations, discussions, and performances, they inspired unity and empowerment. The assembly created a memorable experience, fostering community and a commitment to advocating for children's rights.
As the echoes of World Children's Day reverberate throughout BIS Hanoi, the school community stands united in their commitment to #ShapingTheFuture, ensuring that children's voices are heard, valued, and empowered. Together, our students are undeniably shaping the future as they continue to champion the cause of children's rights with unwavering determination.
