Dear Parents,
Dear Parents,
It has been a busy week at the Primary school this week, with lots of parent events happening across both sites. On Wednesday, Chris Newman and I were delighted to welcome parents to our first Friends of BIS coffee morning, where it was lovely to get to know new parents and reconnect with returning parents.
After a fun icebreaker, the conversation was flowing, and there were smiles all around. This year we are establishing a committee for Friends of BIS to enable parents to organize more events with our support. There is still time to sign up to be part of the FoBIS Committee, so click here if you’re interested.
Over 60 parents joined our phonics workshop with Ms. Catherine in the Early Years Center on Thursday morning. Parents ‘put themselves in the shoes’ of our students as they engaged in a phonics lesson, helping them to better understand how phonics is taught and how it helps the children to build words and begin to read. Parents across primary schools should also have received phonics and reading updates recently from class teachers following recent assessments. The next Phonics Parent Connect will be later this term, where parents will get a chance to see students in their phonics lessons in action.
Next week, Ms. Harvey, our Key Stage 2 English leader, will be delivering a reading workshop for parents in Years 3-6 on Thursday, September 14th. It will start with a drop-in into classrooms at 8:50, followed by a Parent Connect. We look forward to seeing you there.
Finally, a big thank you to all parents for your help with ensuring your children are in school uniform and bringing the right equipment every day. We know that building new habits takes time and practice to embed, but we really appreciate the students coming in smart every day in school uniform with their trainers and PE kit in their bags.
I’m looking forward to seeing you at the Welcome Back event today and at the performance tomorrow at Hoan Kiem Lake.
Have a great weekend,
Rebecca Carroll
