For students, nothing is more inspiring than learning directly from professionals in their field. This week, Performing Arts students had the unique opportunity to work with a leading British military band when we welcomed the Band of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers to our school.
The Band of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers have performed at prestigious events and historic locations across the world. The band's Brass Quintet and director Captain Richard Watterson visited our school to inspire our Performing Arts students and treat the whole school to a show-stopping performance.
The visit began with students and staff gathering at reception to hear the band play a range of musical pieces as part of our lunchtime concert. The impressive brass instruments used by the five-piece ensemble could be heard from across the school, while members of the audience enjoyed seeing the talent of these professional musicians up-close.
After the concert, the band took part in a dedicated session with our IGCSE and IB students. Performance, ensemble skills, and knowledge of brass instruments are all key areas which IGCSE and IB students need to develop ahead of their exams. With this in mind, the band shared practical guidance as well as their personal experiences of performing as a group. Students left the session inspired by what the band had to say and with renewed confidence to take-on their upcoming exams.
The second session took place in the auditorium with our Primary and Secondary Brass and Percussion Clubs. Ahead of their upcoming performance at the UK Festival in Vietnam, it was the perfect time for students to work with the band to improve their individual playing and group performance skills. We are excited to see the impact of the band's guidance when students take to the stage on Saturday 9th September as part of the UK Festival in Vietnam, Hoan Kiem.
We would like to say a huge thank-you to the Band of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers for taking time out of their busy schedule to visit BIS Hanoi and spend time with our students.
World-class teachers and over 10 years of academic excellence ensure every child reaches their full potential.
These seven students were granted our maximum scholarship, among over 50 applicants after rigorous testing and interviews.
