More than half were awarded the Bilingual Diploma
Students studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) have broken a new record at the British International School (BIS) Hanoi in 2023, and once again performed significantly above the global average.
As well as achieving a perfect 100% pass rate, the students’ average score of 35 was the second highest in the school history, exceeding the world average of 30.24. For the sixth consecutive year, BIS Hanoi’s students have continued beating the global average, placing them among the world’s highest achievers among hundreds of thousands of IBDP students from across the globe.
With almost 140 university acceptances received so far, many BIS Hanoi students will continue their academic studies at the world’s best universities, including Stanford University, University College London (UCL) and University of Toronto. With these remarkable IB results, many more offers are expected to come in from top universities in other parts of the world.
This year, one of our students received a perfect score of 45, placing her in the top 1% of students worldwide.
Besides the top scorer, 1 in 5 students in the cohort received 40+ points. This is the level of attainment required to gain admission to world elite universities, including Ivy League and Oxbridge.
Also, 57.1 percent of the cohort earned the special distinction of a bilingual diploma (BD), which shows their first language proficiency in two or more languages.
Mr. Chris Newman, Head of Secondary shared: “Our students have showed tenacity and courage in the face of adversity, and the results reflect this. They have managed to reverse the global trend – the BIS average has increased this year while the world average has fallen considerably. What an outstanding outcome. Well done to the class of 2023!
“We are proud of the achievements of our class of 2023. This reflects well upon our school culture that promotes academic excellence as well as the strong commitment from our student body. A bright future awaits. Congratulations!”, said Mr. Richard Vaughan, Principal of BIS Hanoi.
At the Graduation Ceremony on May 27th, the school’s Class of 2023 celebrated the culmination of their time at BIS in the presence of their families, friends and teachers. Watch the highlight video of their memorable occasion here:

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is one of the three essential core elements that every student must complete as part of their International Baccalaureate (IB) and BIS Diploma.
We are proud to announce the outstanding achievement of our students in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) for the 2021/22 academic school year.
Our students achieve more than they may have thought possible. We believe there is no limit to what students can achieve socially, personally and academically. This year, our students’ academic results reflect our shared commitment to excellence in this area.
