On Tuesday morning this week, Year 8 students participated in a ‘Mindful Morning’ as part of their Life Skills curriculum.
Over the past term we have been focussing on learning about our mental and emotional wellbeing. We have looked at topics such as stress, anxiety and social media and how these can affect us. Mindfulness is a popular and proven technique that is used world wide to help children, students and adults deal with the pressures life can throw at us.
In our mindful morning, students chose one of six workshops to discover a way of being mindful that was of interest to them. Students took part in a Mindful Walk around the school grounds with Mr Duggan, some Mindful drawing and colouring with Ms Dorr and learnt how to make a Gratitude Video with Mr Casey. Other students experienced a Yoga class with Ms Bevan, Meditation with Mr Grace or composed Mindful Music with Ms Kirk. All students approached the morning with curiosity and enthusiasm and we hope they are inspired to continue to implement the mindful techniques they learnt about in their day to day lives.
