In Year 3, we have recently been learning about volcanoes!
We learned about the different types of volcanoes, how they are formed, and the science behind volcanic eruptions. To bring our learning to life, we made paper mâché volcanoes, erupted them using a mixture of water, dish soap, bicarbonate of soda, and vinegar and showcased this to Year 1.
The students had a blast (pun intended) creating their paper mâché volcanoes, and their creativity and imagination really shone through as they decorated them with paint and other materials. They were also engaged and curious as we discussed the chemical reactions happening inside the volcano as we added the eruption mixture.
When it was time to erupt the volcanoes, the students were thrilled to see their hard work come to life. They were able to witness first-hand how the chemical reaction caused the eruption and the lava (in this case, the bicarbonate of soda and vinegar mixture) flowed out of the volcano just like in real life.
We can't wait to continue our scientific adventures in Year 3!
Year 3 Created Paper Mache Volcanoes
In 2014 Mrs. Lowe arrived to teach at the British International School Abu Dhabi, excited to work with the Physical Education Department to implement and embed Dance within both the curriculum and the CCA programme. Schemes of work were created for FS1 to Year 9 and all PE teachers received professional development training to understand the fundamentals of Dance, to discover the importance of Dance and how movement can be creative and powerful.
Last week, Mrs. Stanier, our Head of Humanities, had the pleasure of accompanying three of our amazing students: Tia and Renad from Year 12, and Turkan from Year 10, to Houston, Texas, to take part in the NAE UNICEF summit. We were thrilled to be hosted by one of our Nord Anglia schools, The Village School in Houston, the first Child-Friendly City in the US recognised by UNICEF. The Village School is a boarding school, so the students got to experience what life was like as a boarding student there for the week.
