Yesterday we hosted the first Young Leaders Conference for Year 6 and 7 students.
Students who applied for a leadership role and were successful, started their day collecting their lanyard and goody bag before joining the other Young Leaders in the hall. Mr. Cullinan spoke about being a ‘Champion of Change’ and shared our new school vision before Mrs. Heptinstall-Lowe got the students thinking about qualities of a good leader.
Students then split off into the following workshops: Language Leaders, Student Ambassadors, Reading Leaders, Times Tables Champions, Sports Leaders, Playground Leaders, BISAD Diploma Ambassadors and Eco Warriors. Each workshop was led by teachers who lead in these areas within school alongside dedicated IB students.
Our Young Leaders then listened to Mr. Harper talking about his personal experience as a leader, drawing upon leaders who had inspired him before having the opportunity to reflect on the day, sharing their new knowledge and skills with those from different workshops. Students added to their BISAD Diplomas before being proudly presented with a certificate from Mr. Lowe and Mr. Cocker.
These students are now involved in BISAD’s Young Leaders Programme and will be carrying out their leadership roles next term. We look forward to seeing these Change Makers in action!
In 2014 Mrs. Lowe arrived to teach at the British International School Abu Dhabi, excited to work with the Physical Education Department to implement and embed Dance within both the curriculum and the CCA programme. Schemes of work were created for FS1 to Year 9 and all PE teachers received professional development training to understand the fundamentals of Dance, to discover the importance of Dance and how movement can be creative and powerful.
Last week, Mrs. Stanier, our Head of Humanities, had the pleasure of accompanying three of our amazing students: Tia and Renad from Year 12, and Turkan from Year 10, to Houston, Texas, to take part in the NAE UNICEF summit. We were thrilled to be hosted by one of our Nord Anglia schools, The Village School in Houston, the first Child-Friendly City in the US recognised by UNICEF. The Village School is a boarding school, so the students got to experience what life was like as a boarding student there for the week.
