We are the students of BIS Abu Dhabi and it's now our generation's time to lead.
Our voices are being enabled and exciting, positive and necessary change is on the horizon! As a bright new generation of future leaders, we the students of BIS Abu Dhabi want to use our voice to create some exciting changes. We no longer wish to sit on the sidelines and be observers. We wish to be the catalyst for encouraging conversations to drive positive changes that few have the courage to address.
We are a brand-new student team - BISAD’s Student Activists - and we are starting now!
The annual event that was once International Day will instead become a platform where we, the youth, work with you, our incredible local community to celebrate our humanity and beautiful environment and give a voice to students to create deep meaningful experiences that become a legacy for all future generations in our school.
This year, this special day will celebrate the unique qualities of our school: inclusivity, diversity and our global community; and bring ideas to everyone's attention about what we can do in school and, as families, to work towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and create a better world and brighter future for everyone.
We will build upon the successes of Nord Anglia Education's inspiring Social Impact Programme with UNICEF, which challenges our students to think about what they can do to make a positive difference; locally and globally, working on projects including: clean energy, quality health education for all and protecting global waterways. This is also at a key time as COP 28 is coming to the UAE and we must start to reflect and change the things we did before in order to create vital sustainable change.
In 2023, what was once our celebrated “International” Day will have a fresh new look and become our BISAD Day of Youth. It will be planned, organized and led by us students; the year 12 Student Activists. As always, we will need your help to make this the epic success we are hoping for. At the beginning of next term, we will be holding a Coffee Morning for Parents to present our ideas so that we can work together to create a very meaningful, special and memorable day which embodies our sustainability dreams.
More information to follow in the New Year. We look forward to working with you all to make this day the best yet! We wish you a magical, healthy and restful break.
In 2014 Mrs. Lowe arrived to teach at the British International School Abu Dhabi, excited to work with the Physical Education Department to implement and embed Dance within both the curriculum and the CCA programme. Schemes of work were created for FS1 to Year 9 and all PE teachers received professional development training to understand the fundamentals of Dance, to discover the importance of Dance and how movement can be creative and powerful.
BIS Abu Dhabi's Year 12 BTEC Business students recently completed 40 hours of work experience as part of their course, working at prestigious locations such as Seaworld, The W Hotel, The Courtyard by Marriott, and Crompton Partners. We are proud to have established strong relationships with outstanding employers who are eager to support our BTEC students.
From the 10th – 16th June, our team of World Scholars attended the Baku Global Round, after successfully qualifying at our in-school round back in April. Our Scholars ranged from Year 6 to Year 10 and competed in teams of three with the hope of qualifying for the next stage.
Last week, Mrs. Stanier, our Head of Humanities, had the pleasure of accompanying three of our amazing students: Tia and Renad from Year 12, and Turkan from Year 10, to Houston, Texas, to take part in the NAE UNICEF summit. We were thrilled to be hosted by one of our Nord Anglia schools, The Village School in Houston, the first Child-Friendly City in the US recognised by UNICEF. The Village School is a boarding school, so the students got to experience what life was like as a boarding student there for the week.
