Breast Cancer became the most common cancer globally as of 2021, accounting for 12% of all new annual cancer cases worldwide, according to the World Health Organisation. The most common risk factors are increasing age, obesity, family history of breast cancer, history of radiation exposure, hormone therapy, and smoking.
The event included educational talks by Dr. Caroline Emma Richardson and Dr. Maria Ansari from Mediclinic, on Breast Cancer Awareness and prevention strategies, testimonials by incredibly strong cancer survivors, and fun events including a raffle draw, catwalk, nail station, and henna tattoos were also on offer!
The highlight of the event had to be the generous charitable contributions by our wonderful parents, students, and participants. These donations will go a long way in helping cancer patients, supported by the Friends of Cancer Patients Foundation. Some of the volunteers also contributed by donating handcrafted giveaways and delicious baked goods.
A huge thank you to our parent volunteers as well as to our fabulous PINKTOBER Coffee Morning sponsors, we really appreciate all of your support in making our event such a success today.
Parents and staff, be sure to check out the BIS Abu Dhabi Network here for some special offers that were kindly donated to our community that you will not want to miss out on!

The end of the year is a time for reflection and celebration, as well as an opportunity to look ahead.
During the last weeks, we have celebrated students at the Sports Award Assembly, welcomed fathers sharing time with students in the Early Years team, enjoyed end-of-term showcases across many year groups, attended IB presentations, participated in a Science Fair hosted by the Science CCA, and watched the Dance Production, BISAD’s Got Talent Show and the Music Open Mic event, to name but a few.
In 2014 Mrs. Lowe arrived to teach at the British International School Abu Dhabi, excited to work with the Physical Education Department to implement and embed Dance within both the curriculum and the CCA programme. Schemes of work were created for FS1 to Year 9 and all PE teachers received professional development training to understand the fundamentals of Dance, to discover the importance of Dance and how movement can be creative and powerful.
Earlier in June, a group of our IB students jetted off to Iceland for an unforgettable adventure. Damian Toader from 12A shares his experience of this incredible trip, capturing the essence of Iceland's breathtaking landscapes and unique natural phenomena through his lens as the group's photographer.
