This week, Year 6 students will be dissecting a heart as part of their current science topic, ‘Animals Including Humans'. In preparation the Year 6 teachers had a session with the secondary Biology teachers who taught them the knowledge behind identifying and labelling heart components such as the different chambers and valves and how they work.
This opportunity for professional development has helped the Year 6 staff as it has given them the confidence to impart biological understanding in a more detailed way. It also provides the students with skills and understanding of topics that they will be able to transfer to their secondary science education.
