Just before the half-term break, a select number of promising mathematicians from Years 9 - 11 entered the UK Mathematical Trusts’ Intermediate Mathematical Challenge. This highly-regarded Trust challenges students’ problem-solving abilities, working outside of traditional curriculum topics.

Our students’ performance did us proud! Of the Year 9 students who entered, 6 achieved a Bronze award, 4 Silver, and 1 Gold award. A truly impressive performance, given that our students were solving mathematical problems alongside students up to two years their senior. Ruan from Year 9 achieved the ‘Best in Year’ award, alongside his Gold award with 92 points.
20 of our Year 10 students achieved an award; 12 Bronze, 6 Silver and 2 Gold. Younes received the ‘Best in Year’ award, alongside his Gold award, with a score of 122. Younes and Junha performed so well that they qualified for the Hamilton Olympiad, which is a 2-hour competition only available to the top 600 students across the world in Year 10! They will be competing in the Olympiad on Thursday, 18th March.

In Year 11, 19 students received an award; 11 Bronze, 5 Silver, and 3 Gold going to Rani, Ahro and Seongwon. Seongwon’s score of 130 earned him both the ‘Best in Year' as well as the ‘Best in School’ award! His hugely impressive score was only 5 marks off perfection, getting only one question wrong. Seongwon qualified for the Maclaurin Olympiad, a 2-hour competition only available to the top 600 students across the world in Year 11. Preparations have already started, and he will also be competing in this Olympiad on Thursday, 18th March.

Well done to all who participated.
