Village Amongst Top 20 Best Private Schools in America according to Niche.com
Zoe Lalji is being honored for her work in launching and leading the Lalji ALS Foundation and ALS Heroes. She was recognized January 12 at The Mad Hatter’s Luncheon, a Houston fundraising event hosted by Le Jardin de Nicole, and spoke about her business experiences so far.
Zoe is an Entrepreneurship Diploma student at The Village School and created her foundation under the guidance of Christine Galib, the Entrepreneurship and Wellness Director.
In November of 2017, Zoe’s father was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). She spoke at a TedEx event in Sugarland about the difficulty of turning this tragedy into a transformative moment when their family chose to make it their mission and “something gifted to us to make an impact on the world.”
As a student in Entrepreneurship courses at The Village School, she took her natural gift for speaking along with her passion and love for her father, and created the Lalji ALS Foundation and ALS Heroes. The mission is to raise hope and awareness for the disease, as well as to conduct research in pursuit of a cure. Recently, Zoe hosted a Day of Silence at The Village High School, where over 500 students practiced silence for an entire day to raise awareness for ALS. At the Mad Hatter Luncheon, Zoe spoke about the profound impact this had on her, in seeing peers take initiative to help support their family.
The Lalji family continues their tireless work in fundraising, researching and most importantly, Zoe notes, spending time together as a family, battling the disease with all-encompassing, healing love.

Every school is home to exceptional individuals dedicated to making a positive impact on their community. Whether it's through class initiatives, service projects, or independent efforts, students are constantly striving to improve the world around them.
At The Village School, these initiatives shine brightly as students embrace opportunities to lead with empathy and purpose. One such example is a project started by Milan Drummond, a 12th grader with a passion for justice and community well-being. Through her initiative, Harmony Highways, Milan is working to improve relations between the public and law enforcement, reflecting both her desire to make a difference and her career aspirations.
During the summer time, vacations, pools, and fun are certainly on children’s minds. However, it’s also important to incorporate learning into their day. Summer learning loss, also known as the "summer slide," refers to the decline in academic and social skills that can occur when children are not engaged in educational activities during the summer months. Dana Sheridan, LPC, Lower School Counselor at The Village School, sheds light on this issue and offers practical solutions for parents to keep their children's minds active during the long summer break.
