Village Amongst Top 20 Best Private Schools in America according to Niche.com
Entrepreneurship student, Divyesh K. attended the University of Houston's’ EXPLORE Business Summer Institute hosted by the Bauer College of Business this summer.
In this immersive experience, Divyesh was able to attend lectures regarding leadership strategies and employee engagement as well as take on a real-world business situation for Academy Sports and Outdoors.
“The lectures there were some the most captivating I have ever attended, despite being well over 2 hours,” Divyesh said. “I learned a lot about how engaged employees can improve a company's bottom line. More than that, however, I learned how I could apply this information as a leader, by understanding my leadership style and how I could leverage it to engage my peers within an organization.”
Students were challenged to improve employee engagement, especially against the backdrop of booming online marketplaces. Divyeshs’ team of 4 presented a detailed strategy focused on gamification and improving break-time experiences to boost employee engagement to corporate employees of the company.
Their hard work was rewarded with a second-place win for the team and recognition from company officials.
“I came away from the camp not just with the knowledge of employee engagement and all of its benefits,” Divyesh said. “But also with real-life skills and a network of equally driven high school students across the nation.”
Divyesh brings this knowledge back to The Village School Entrepreneurship program with founding partners Bridges to Wealth. He is pursuing an Entrepreneurship Diploma with the class of 2020.
Every school is home to exceptional individuals dedicated to making a positive impact on their community. Whether it's through class initiatives, service projects, or independent efforts, students are constantly striving to improve the world around them.
At The Village School, these initiatives shine brightly as students embrace opportunities to lead with empathy and purpose. One such example is a project started by Milan Drummond, a 12th grader with a passion for justice and community well-being. Through her initiative, Harmony Highways, Milan is working to improve relations between the public and law enforcement, reflecting both her desire to make a difference and her career aspirations.
During the summer time, vacations, pools, and fun are certainly on children’s minds. However, it’s also important to incorporate learning into their day. Summer learning loss, also known as the "summer slide," refers to the decline in academic and social skills that can occur when children are not engaged in educational activities during the summer months. Dana Sheridan, LPC, Lower School Counselor at The Village School, sheds light on this issue and offers practical solutions for parents to keep their children's minds active during the long summer break.
