Alex L., a Village high school student, earned a gold medal after competing in the 48th International Chemistry Olympiad. He competed for the U.S.A. against 80 other countries and placed 8th in the world in chemistry. ICHO is an annual academic competition for high school students and this year was held in Tbilisi, Georgia from 20-29 July 2016.

Summer learning loss, also known as the "summer slide," refers to the decline in academic and social skills that can occur when children are not engaged in educational activities during the summer months.
