A TYPICAL DAY AT THE VILLAGE SCHOOL
BECOMING INQUISITIVE
We discover how to be curious and analytical from the very start of our school experience! Learning about the oceans and polar bears, for example, we'll explore why global warming occurs which melts the ice caps and makes hunting more difficult for the bears.
EXPLORING
DISCOVERY THROUGH PLAY
Across our state-of-the-art play areas, our budding explorers move from the hands-on “mud kitchen” to our “snack shack” with a BBQ pit and picnic tables, as they learn about outdoor safety and balance their sensory skills and dexterity.
HAVING FUN
LUNCHTIME PROBLEM-SOLVING
Lunchtime and recess games are important times of social and emotional development. We learn how to solve problems among ourselves as we share with peers and use conscious discipline to distinguish wants from needs.
SHARING WITH OTHERS
QUIET TIME
In the afternoon, we take time to reflect and recharge, as we consider what we’ve learned so far in the day. We’ll use self-discipline and self-soothing techniques to balance ourselves and revitalize for the new lessons ahead.
RECHARGING
STORYTELLING
We develop our love for reading when parent “mystery readers” surprise us with read-alouds from their favorite books. To continually develop our literacy, we’ll also use colorful cue cards to practice the alphabet.
READING AND LISTENING
TRYING NEW THINGS
After school, we embrace play time as opportunities to try new things energize us to keep learning and exploring. During our After Class Enrichment (ACE) program, we can participate in new games and learn new skills alongside our playmates.
GOING BEYOND WHAT WE KNOW
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
MORNING MEETINGS
We begin our day by gathering with our peers and teachers, discussing our goals and what we look forward to learning.
GATHERING
READERS’ AND WRITERS’ WORKSHOPS
Practice makes perfect! During our workshops, we learn about new books and genres while readying ourselves to write in different styles for unique audiences.
STORYTELLING
DEEP-DIVING INTO SPECIALITIES
We nourish our talents by giving them dedicated attention. Each day, we attend two specialist classes in French or Spanish, the performing or visual arts, physical education, library, or innovation.
DEVELOPING TALENTS
BECOME INSPIRED
We make visual art for an annual gallery showcase, presenting our ideas and expressions. We’ll integrate scannable QR codes so anyone can easily learn more about what’s on display.
PRESENTING OUR WORK
MATH AND INQUIRY
How do you begin to tackle a complex problem? There’s nothing better than an afternoon in Math Workshop and Inquiry—time to explore, research, and develop social studies and science skills—as we learn how to conduct experiments and find solutions.
RESEARCHING
MEMORY-MAKING IN CLUBS
When afternoon classes end, we love to jump into our favorite after-school clubs across sports, the arts, and other subjects, where we develop our skills and create projects that delight us.
FUN BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
middle school
SEIZING THE DAY
Woven into our thinking throughout the day, we strive to be creative and critical in our approaches to the world we live in. In our advisory classes, we’ll meaningfully participate in clubs and service organizations.
STARTING OFF STRONG
BUILDING SOMETHING NEW
We create our own projects to solve real-world challenges presented by experts at MIT, as we learn the tools we need for success in our makers space and create strategic models with our 3D printers.
INNOVATING
GREENHOUSE VISITS
We’ll check the hydroponic towers to see the health of the plants in the greenhouse, applying the principles we’ve learned in our science classes. We’ll simultaneously use this time to reflect on our own goals for growth in our studies.
GROWING RAPIDLY
TAKE A BREAK AND REFUEL
We figure out how to make good decisions, applying strategy and logic. When it’s lunchtime, for example, we’ll choose a heathy side from the salad bar while playing a game of chess, throwing a football, or catching up with friends.
MAKING DECISIONS
ELECTIVES AND ATHLETICS
Whether we’re on the stage or the sports field, we’ll enrich our skills during elective classes like speech, robotics, band, choir, or debate and athletics like strength and conditioning, swimming, and dance.
CULTIVATING SKILLS
CAMPUS BUZZ
Campus buzzes with middle school activities long after classes end. Between sports practices, games, rehearsals, and club meetings, we continue to get involved in school life to build our community, connections, and well-being.
REHEARSING, DEBATING, OR MAKING
HIGH SCHOOL
CREATING YOUR FUTURE
As we watch and listen to morning announcements from our Head of School and Student Government, we prepare to tackle what lies ahead. To accelerate towards our goals, we consider college advising, portfolio development, and embracing real-world experiences.
PUTTING YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD
FUELING ACADEMICS
Our academics enrich our minds as we research and evaluate aspects of the world around us. We have memorable lessons in rigorous classes, studying the Theory of Knowledge, a STEM subject like chemistry or algebra, or Spanish.
RESEARCHING AND EVALUATING
SHOWING WHO YOU ARE
As we take a midday break to fuel up, we show who we are. We choose from global cuisine in the cafeteria or snacks in the campus store, break out a guitar to play music in the courtyard, or juggle a soccer ball with a group of friends.
DEFINE YOUR CHARACTER
RECEIVING INSIGHTS
During advisory class, we learn various social and emotional techniques. We also receive college counseling and school assemblies to give us insights or advice about how we can make a difference around us.
ADVICE FOR THE FUTURE
CHAMPIONING THE OUTDOORS
In a variety of outside classes, we grasp what it’s like to do field work in different lab contexts, like taking grass samples or simulating various kinds of environments with the Green Machine in Environmental Science class.
GETTING YOUR HANDS DIRTY
COMPETING, SPEAKING OR BUILDING
With more than 80 student-led or student-created clubs, campus buzzes after school, long after classes end. During vibrant activities like TEDED Club, robotics, or E-sports, we become leaders in our community.
