Nord Anglia Education - Chinese Sponsorship June 2008 - The leading international provider of quality improvement and innovation in education

Nord Anglia Education PLC ('Nord Anglia'), the leading international provider of quality improvement and innovation in education and training, today announced that it will make a charitable donation of RMB 500,000 (£40,000) to build a permanent new school in China replacing a school destroyed by the earthquake in May.

The donation will be made to the Chinese charity China Children and Teenagers Fund (CCTF) in support of their Spring Bud Project, which assists disadvantaged children who do not have access to education. The new school, which is located in Tianshui, Gansu Province (immediately north of the Sichuan region), is scheduled to be opened by the end of August 2009. It will be named the Nord Anglia Spring Bud School and accommodate up to 180 children aged between seven and fourteen.

The funding will be targeted at the construction of the school and the fit out of seven classrooms. As sponsor, Nord Anglia will work closely with the CCTF throughout all stages of the project and is looking forward to developing a long term relationship with the staff and pupils.

Andrew Fitzmaurice, Chief Executive Officer at Nord Anglia Education, said:

Children and Teenagers Fund (CCTF)

CCTF, founded in 1981, was the first charitable fund of its type in China. It is committed to helping children from poor backgrounds develop their full physical, mental and social potential, helping them become self reliant people who contribute to their communities. In 1989 they launched their Spring Bud Project, which aims to assist children, predominantly girls, from poverty stricken regions, who do not have access to education.

When the project was launched there were 4.8 million children in China between the ages of 7 and 14, who did not attend school. 83 % of them were girls. Since that time CCTF has built more than 500 schools throughout the country to offer education to this group of children.
