Primary Campus Weekly Update

Primary Campus Weekly Update - Primary Campus Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

Hot on the heels of our mathematics parent workshop came our much-anticipated Maths Rock Stars Day; you may have seen it through our social media or when your children came to school dressed as Rock Stars! The ‘why’ behind celebration days here at NAIS Hong Kong may serve different purposes throughout the year. Essentially, these days may help to spotlight aspects of learning, global citizenship, our connection to wider societal issues or raise collective awareness of topics or subjects that reflect our school values.

On this occasion, our celebration of mathematics was building up throughout the week with planned lessons that challenged children to engage with problem solving and fluency. We also encouraged children to develop greater accuracy and speed in their timetables, as part of our Maths Rock Stars which culminated in children competing against each other to get into the finals and then compete with Mr. Leung!

The NAIS Hong Kong Maths Rock Star Champion this year was Ayden W. 6E as 'Ultimate Times Tables Champion'.

We can all agree that the event was a great success thanks to our Mathematics Coordinator, Ms. Harris. Her dedication and passion for mathematics are driving forward positive curriculum changes at NAIS Hong Kong. Within our broader curriculum, we are always reviewing and refining our approaches so that we can support the progress of the children in our care.

Indeed, this is a good segway into pupil progress meetings that have been happening across school. Teachers and school leaders have been reviewing the progress of the children in school and discussing how we can support their next steps. We review our current practices and evaluate the impact on children’s emotional and academic outcomes. Teachers share strategies that are effective, which leads to intentional changes to classroom practice.

So, in mathematical terms our equation for success over the last few weeks has been sharing our ‘why’ with parents, ‘how’ with our children and reviewing and refining ‘what’ in our classrooms.
