Dear parents,
A very warm welcome to the final Parent Update of this academic year. With only a few short days of the summer term left to enjoy, I hope that all parents, students, and staff are able to reflect with great satisfaction and pride upon the achievement, enjoyment, vibrancy, fun, energy, and sense of community that has been ever-present across our entire school throughout 2023-24.
Within this year’s end-of-year celebrations, we have been fortunate in being able to revisit some of these special occasions and achievements with students (and parents) as we prepare them for the next phase in their learning journey. This has been particularly poignant for our learners who graduate this year from Years 6, 11, and 13, as these significant events provide strong and lasting memories of their time in school which will remain with them well into their adult lives.
Last Thursday evening, parents and staff were entertained by the fabulous Year 6 musical production, Madagascar, and on Friday we celebrated our Year 6 cohort coming of age as they leave our Primary campus to take up their studies in Secondary school, celebrating the significant academic, social, and personal achievements that they all have made along the way. Today we reflected with our Secondary learners in Years 7 to 10, and Year 12 on their own academic achievement, individual progress and their collective contributions to the success of our Secondary school within our Secondary Prize Giving event, tomorrow morning we share an opportunity to celebrate the marvelous successes and achievements of our Primary children, and across the week our youngest learners have also had their special achievements and accomplishments celebrated within Early Years shared and celebrated in Sai Kung.
If this wasn’t enough, this evening Primary parents and staff will be entertained by our exceptionally talented Primary musicians and singers as part of the Primary Summer Concert. I am sure that the Year 1 to 3 Choir will be a particular high point for all who are there!
PTA AGM sets the scene for a fabulous year ahead
I would like to thank all parents who attended the recent PTA AGM, and I am very pleased to announce the appointment of our Executive Committee for the coming academic year. As a school we have benefitted greatly from the exceptional energy and leadership of our existing PTA ExCo members, Karen Au, Aimee Jefferson, Candace Law, Heather Chan and Tammy Tam, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their excellent service and support throughout this academic year.
It gives me great pleasure to announce that all of our current Executive members will be continuing next year and will be joined by a number of new members to provide further strength and capacity to the PTA as a whole. The nominated and appointed members for 2024-25 are:
Karen Au |
PTA Chair |
Aimee Jefferson |
PTA Vice Chair (Kwun Tong) |
Candace Law |
PTA Vice Chair (Lam Tin) |
Holly Taylor |
PTA Vice Chair (Sai Kung) |
Kolera Radhika Apaiah |
PTA Secretary |
Tammy Tam |
PTA Treasurer |
As you will see from the above, the PTA structure has been revised within our constitution to provide Vice Chair positions within each of our three campuses to provide a more focused distribution of support across each element of our school community.
Within the AGM parents also carried the motion to extend new roles to support the functions of both Secretary and Treasurer. Parents voted into these new roles are:
Violet Siu |
PTA Assistant Secretary |
Natalie Baker O’Brien |
PTA Assistant Treasurer |
The meeting also voted in additional Assistant Vice Chairs to support and engage with the wider parent community, and provide their energy, organisation and enthusiasm for all PTA events next year.
In addition to our amazing new ExCo, we also have an incredibly strong and committed PTA Committee who will add their enthusiasm in facilitating a wide range of events across the coming academic year. I look forward to working alongside the PTA to ensure that our Association continues to thrive and grow in its role in supporting the NAISHK parent community.
If any parent would be interested in finding out more about the role of the PTA and taking part in PTA committee events, please contact with the PTA via email at ptanaishk@gmail.com.
The last word…
I would hope that you will agree with me that the school has enjoyed another fabulous year, marked particularly by the awards and recognition the school has enjoyed, the success of our ECA’s, enrichment activities and residentials. Our students have thrown themselves into everything, and have excelled in so many fields it is impossible to list them all. I have taken great pride in my role as Principal of this vibrant school community and continue to be in awe of the successes and achievements of students of all ages. As parents I am sure that you share my pride.
Over the summer, NAIS Hong Kong colleagues and I will be working hard to finalise arrangements to support a smooth and effective opening to our new academic year, and setting the priorities to build upon the successes of the school and to support further improvements. Like our young learners, we should always seek to do better; to set the highest standards for ourselves; and aim to achieve our ambitious goals.
I would like to wish you all the very best for the summer holiday and look forward to welcoming you all back, refreshed, for what will be an exciting, new academic year.
Kind regards,
Kenny Duncan
Principal
