Dear parents,
What a Super Science Day!
A fantastic assembly led by Miss Anna McKean, Y6 teacher and Science Coordinator, introduced the day for the children, sharing quizzes and some of the more “unsung heroes of Science” were celebrated. The theme of the day is to promote diverse Science role models for all.
We also announced the winners of the COBIS Century Competition.
Y3A – Yuto H
Y4E – Martina W
Y5C – Adora C
Y6F – Dawn L
I was very impressed with the number of scientists our children knew and could explain what they had discovered and achieved.
Highlights of the day:
Y1 – Explored coral reefs and created a coral reef shoebox diorama.
Y2 – Researched Beatrix Potter and completed a Peter Rabbit Garden Investigation.
Y3 – Pupils acted as paleontologists with a fossil dig and a team call with Professor Chang to ask questions.
Y4 – Investigated Edith Clarke, the first female Electrical engineer and created experiments to test materials for conductivity.
Y5 – Pupils were aeronautical engineers and built a range of mini straw rockets.
Y6 – Pupils looked at current world issues including climate change and used prior learning about the circulatory system to create clay organs and their own versions of an “operation” game.
