Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
Transition week activities have gone on to help prepare children for their next year and they certainly seem to be enjoying them from the reaction I have seen.
Every term, we have pupils progress reviews where members of the Senior Leadership team review the progress of each child with the class or subject teacher, along with the Head of Year or Head of Department and a member of the ASN team. This is to ensure that every child has met their individual targets and, if not, put in support or interventions to help them to do so. This being the last term, we are looking back on the year’s progress and I am amazed at how much progress how many children have made. Thanks to all the teachers, TLAs, ASN and you, as parents, for all the work and support which led to this level of progress.
The Bus team have been busy planning the new routes and making sure journey times are kept as short as possible while accommodating all our families who use the service. After a comprehensive review of the operating costs and our subsidies, and in having not made any increase last year, we have taken the decision to increase the bus fees. I know that this will not be welcome news, but hope for your understanding on the matter. I can reassure you that we are still in line with other international schools and will always try to keep increases to a minimum.
We had a marvellous and very well attended Early Years Curriculum evening at the Sai Kung campus. Thanks to all the staff involved for their work and presentations.
The highlight of the week has to be the Year 2 performance of “The Wizard of Oz”. The costume, the set, the singing and the clear enunciation of the lines were amazing, but it was the sheer joy on their faces as they performed which made it so memorable.
We also hosted a viewing of “She Objects” in conjunction with the Women’s Foundation and with presentations by our students on Gender Equality issues and a panel discussion. This integrates very well with the work in our school on U.N. Global Goals and helps our students represent opinion when they speak on Global Goals at the U.N. Assembly in July.
Enjoy your weekend.
Brian Cooklin.
Principal.

SHE SUCCEEDS
On Thursday night, a mixture of secondary students, parents, teachers and Nord Anglia staff were treated to an enlightening evening of gender related debate and discussion in relation to the documentary film She Objects. The event was expertly introduced and chaired by our New York bound Global Goalkeepers: Beatrice Villaflor, Elena Gonzalez and Dina Evdokimova from Year 9.
They were joined by Riya Chandiramani, Development Officer at The Women’s Foundation; Joanna Hotung, CEO Kids Gallery; Sophia Hotung Graduate, Columbia University, New York; Brian Henderson, COO Baker MacKenzie law firm and co-chair Male Allies Hong Kong; Nicky Duggan Redfern , Group HR Director Nord Anglia and Vivian Pan and colleagues from UNICEF Hong Kong.
Many thanks to everyone who attended and contributed towards the event. We will have a more detailed report on the event soon, but you can listen back to the post film discussion on YouTube or on a podcast version on Soundcloud.

START SPREADING THE NEWS: NAIS HK GOES TO NEW YORK!
Last week, Dina, Beatrice and Elena from Year 9 led an assembly for KS2 about their upcoming trip to New York for the Nord Anglia – UNICEF summit. To represent the views of all our students, the girls have requested that all NAIS Hong Kong students complete a survey to show their thoughts about the goals and the issues they think are most important to them and their communities. The survey can be found here. The results will then be discussed at the NAE-UNICEF forum in New York in July so this is an amazing opportunity for our students to have their opinions listened to and taken seriously at the highest levels.
STRAWS ARE THE CAUSE CAMPAIGN
The Pupil Council's Week Without Waste is coming up, 19th-22nd June 2018.
Leading up to this week, the Pupil Council would like to invite you to participate in our Straws Are The Cause campaign. This is in order to raise awareness about the detrimental impact plastic, single-use straws have on our environment.
As part of our campaign, we are asking the school to create advertising campaign "poster style" projects. This can be uploaded on to the Padlet below. Some examples could include, designing a poster using colours on paper; creating a digital image using any application on the computer; creating a 3D image using recyclable materials. Whichever approach you take, the project must be captured and uploaded as a photo. Please be as creative as you like, but the only requirement is your project has the name of our campaign (Straws Are The Cause) clearly outlined in one way or another.
The competition will be divided into 3 sections: Early Years & Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2, and Secondary.
Entries will be judged by The Pupil Council and the winning entries will be published in poster form and displayed as part of our campaign.
Please upload all entries by Wednesday, 13 June 2018.

On Friday morning we were given a special treat, when class 3E managed to bring together their learning on the Romans and share it with us in a humorous and fact filled assembly. The jokes, the timing and the presentation were top quality and they even managed to involve the rest of the Year 3 children in a call-and-response sing-a-long about Roman history. Well done to all who took part!
TAI TAM UPDATES
Message from the Deputy Head of School
Dear Parents,
The Starfish and Turtles put on a super assembly this week full of epic strength, speed and bravery! It is always lovely to see how confident and excited the children get to perform to their school and parents.
Year 1 have been off on a school trip this week to the Hong Kong Maritime Museum ending off in Fun Zone to develop their social skills and friendships across all three campuses. They had a fabulous time going on a treasure hunt around the museum to continue their learning about ‘Pirates’.
Reception have been learning all about money with a planned visit to the shop for a real life experience and Nursery have been sorting materials and continuing their links to traditional tales. In PE, Ms Farry has started teaching dance and I can’t wait for the children to showcase some of these dances and skills they have learnt at the End of Year Celebrations.
It also that time of year that children start talking about who their new teacher and classroom is. We have put into place different transition elements for all children so that they can experience their new space and classrooms so they are prepared and excited about next years learning. EYFS Children will find out their teacher and class next Wednesday at our curriculum event. Children going into Year 1 will find out their teacher on Thursday 21st June during their curriculum event and children going into Year 2 will be informed next Thursday at their curriculum event. After these events we will ensure that children go to their new classrooms and if possible meet their new teacher.

NO NUTS
We are a ‘nut free school’ as we have several children with severe nut allergies. This includes peanuts and tree nuts. Please remember this when packing your child’s snack and lunch. We cannot allow nut/nut products of any kind in the building. For a snack, we suggest a small piece of fruit or bread.
SAI KUNG UPDATES
Message from the Head of School
Dear Parents,
Despite the windy, wet weather, the school has been as busy and exciting as ever. All the children took part in a photo day on Wednesday and it was lovely to see the whole school together. I can’t wait to see the final photos.
Year 1 have been off on a school trip this week to the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, ending off in Fun Zone to develop their social skills and friendships across all three campuses. They had a fabulous time going on a treasure hunt around the museum, to continue their learning about ‘Pirates’.
Reception had a transition event on Thursday, where those moving to Year 1 in Lam Tin spent the morning in the ‘big’ school. We were really lucky with the weather as they managed to miss all the downpour and enjoy outdoor play on both the Panda and main playground. They were also excited to see the swimming pool and bump into some familiar faces over there. Meanwhile our lovely 2018 Sai Kung Year 1s enjoyed time together as a new year group in their new pod. We will be moving our two, Year 1 classes into the current Starfish and Seahorses pod. Our three Reception classes will then occupy the Turtles, Dolphins and Angelfish rooms next year. And of course, while Reception were away, our Nursery children had the chance to come upstairs to their new classrooms and start getting used to the big transition ahead. All very exciting times!
It is also that time of year that children start talking about who their new teacher will be. Our children joining the Nursery or Reception found this out who at our curriculum evening on Wednesday, for those who were unable to attend, you will receive the information and presentation via email. Children going into Year 1 will find out their teacher on Thursday 21st June during their curriculum event and children going into Year 2 will be informed next Thursday at their curriculum event.
After these events we will ensure that children go to their new classrooms and if possible meet their new teacher. We have put into place different transition elements for all children so that they can experience their new space and classrooms, so they are prepared and excited about next year’s learning. All the teams have been working hard to make our transitions as smooth as possible for the children.
