Welcome Back
Dear Parents,
It has been a busy and exciting week, welcoming all our new and returning students into school. We can’t wait to share the great learning, adventures and experiences they’ll be having over the coming weeks and months. We will also have lots of updates and photos of the new campuses in Tai Tam and Sai Kung in the not too distant future. Both are taking shape and when they are open, you’ll all be invited to pop over and take a peek for yourselves. For now, though, enjoy your weekend.
Kind regards
Jane

FUN TEACHER/SECONDARY STUDENTS PHOTO COMPETITION
There were several fantastic entries for our holiday photo competition with locations spanning 6 continents!
The winner of the competition (as judged by Mrs. Pate and Mr. Cross) is Simone Skovgaard (Y9) with this excellent shot of the 400m long lower canyon at Antelope Canyons in Arizona, USA. Well done Simone! Honourable mention also goes to Jenni Kam (Y8) with an invitingly tranquil shot of Lake Banff in Alberta, Canada.
NEW SPACES
Wonderful to see our secondary students using their new spaces, the Sky Pitch and The Hub! The students are loving the new outdoor space where they can enjoy their lunch, stretch their legs or kick a ball. It was also great to see the children in ‘The Hub’ enjoying the air con whilst hanging with their class mates. Stay tuned for pictures and information on our new Science lab and Makerspace!
ALL THINGS MUSIC
Instrumental Lessons:
Welcome back to the new academic year. We are delighted to offer private instrumental lessons as a part of our music provision. These are not compulsory, however, should you wish to sign up, please click here to read the attached information carefully and return the form by Tuesday 29th August.
For those of you signing up again this year, please note that payment is now in advance of the termly lessons and should be made directly to Mr. Ringo Chan as per the letter.
I look forward to receiving new students into the programme and welcoming back those from last year.
Juilliard After School Arts:
This term we will be launching lessons with Juilliard Alumni and Affiliated Artists, beginning with piano and with a possibility of violin. These lessons will take place after school and places will be provided on a first-come-first-served basis. If you are interested in signing up, please email naomi.rowan@nais.hk.
Community Choir:
Our wonderful (and fun) community choir will restart on Monday 11th September from 4-5pm. As always, if you enjoy singing, love to laugh, have enthusiasm and a smile, you are very welcome to join us in the music room!

JOIN THE PTA COMMITTEE
The PTA Committee is seeking new members. It's a great way to get involved in your child's school life and to meet a fun group of mums and dads. We will be arranging a PTA coffee morning next month so you can meet them in person and find out about the opportunities open to you.
Due to unexpected relocations, we need candidates for Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. You can also join as a regular Committee Member. Please email the PTA at ptanaishk@gmail.com to learn more.
ECAs
The teachers have been busy deciding what ECAs will be on offer and it sounds like there will be some great choices for all our year groups. You will be able to preview term 1 ECAs on Monday, 28th August from 4pm on Firefly (then on CHQ). Registration will open on Wednesday, 30th August at 4pm and close on Saturday, 2nd September at 4pm. You should receive confirmation of your allocation by 12noon on Tuesday, 5th September. ECA late bus sign-up will then run from noon on 5th September and close at noon on 7th September.
MAKING THE MOST OF THE NEW MAKERSPACE
Soon you’ll be invited to come in, experience, explore, and learn all about our brand-new Makerspace for yourselves. It’s a great place where people can create with all manner of nick knacks and resources (my personal favourite being the green room and lego wall). If you fancy adding to our array of resources, feel free to rehome any unwanted lego, craft materials, nuts and bolts, screws, magnets, tools, containers, etc with us. We’re sure they will be put to good use by our students.
HONG KONG SPEECH FESTIVAL
The 69th Hong Kong Speech Festival, will be held between 20th November and 20th December 2017. If you are interested in your child taking part, click here for more information and details. Secondary application for can be downloaded here and Primary application form can be downloaded here.
ASSEMBLY TIME
In the Secondary assembly Mr. Malone spoke to the students about starting the year in the right way. He reminded them about the Secondary slogan, Ready, Respectful, Responsible, Safe and spoke with them about how they could ensure they were all of these moving forward.
In the Primary assembly Mr. Bishop spoke with the children about making a fresh start to the year and how first impressions are important. He encouraged all the children to think about their first impressions of the new year and about the impression they think they have made upon their new teachers. The first stars of the week were then called out and celebrated. Well done to our first ‘Stars’ of the 2017-2018 academic year!
