MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL
Dear Parents
When we returned on Monday after Chinese New Year, our first assembly was about geese. Mrs. Charlier led the assembly showing, with some volunteers, how geese fly in a formation, help each other, change leader and work as a team. It was great fun and a good way of getting across the message of effective teamwork and looking after each other.
Teamwork is at the front of my mind because of the great team of staff I work with daily. Next week the school will be visited by our reporting Inspector, Ms. Donowho, who will be meeting staff and pupils, as well as visiting classes.
This is in preparation for the full school inspection between 7-10 March. The International School inspectorate will look at all aspects of our work and judge what works well and what we should improve. When they publish their report, we will give a copy to all parents and put it on the website.
As part of the process, there is a survey they issue for parents and pupils. Once it is launched, I would be grateful if you could complete it. The more parents who do so, the clearer picture the inspectors have of what the school is like. I will keep you informed about the details when they are available.
Thank you to those of you who have already completed the Nord Anglia Education Parent Survey. Again it is really important to get as high a return as possible because we use it as a basis for our future plans.
Thank you for your help with these matters.
Have a good weekend.

SECOND CURIOSITY CHALLENGE
The second MIT curiosity data challenge wrapped up today with an assembly by our Pupil Council to the whole school telling the story of our data.
Our project was to find out about the water quality around Hong Kong as this was a question that came up during the curiosity challenge. The whole school was involved with pupils in Years 1 to 6 collecting water samples from beaches and rivers around Hong Kong. The Primary pupils then worked with our Year 9s in the science lab to analyse the samples, testing for PH and water hardness. Year 8 then took this data, broke Hong Kong up into geographic sections and calculated mean and median and mode for each area. Finally, Year 7 took all the data and presented it on our display board, creating graphs and highlighting the different areas on a map.
Impressive collaborative work everyone.
OFF TO VISIT MIT … HACK THE TUBE RESULTS
We had four extremely proud students this morning, as Mr Sutton announced the winners of the Hack the Tube competition! Congratulations to Isaac Low, Lune Delettre-Gros, Ethan Chan and Jasmijn Knaap for being chosen to go to MIT for the Nord Anglia STEAM Festival. Our Year 6 and Year 7 students were asked to be creative and come up with an original use for a tube. We saw some amazing submissions, everything from an eco-system project, a mood lamp, through to a robot and a water filtration system, our students really created some unusual and inspiring ideas.
In total, 104 students from Nord Anglia schools around the globe will attend the festival this spring. There will be an incredible week of STEAM activities, tours and workshops will be hosted at MIT in Boston.

PRIMARY ASSEMBLY – Class 1B, Christopher Holt
In 1B’s assembly today, students performed an informative and exciting role play on dinosaurs. The role play is based on the well-known science-fiction adventure film, Jurassic Park. They have to go through what they have learnt in the past months, such as types of dinosaurs and periods in the dinosaurs’ era. They end the show with a video slideshow, it shows class 1B’s bit of school life with many photos of the children.
SECONDARY ASSEMBLY
Mr Pate announced that our U12 Girls basketball team entered the semi-final match of the International Schools Sports Federation of Hong Kong. The semi-final and final matches will be held on 11 Feb (Tomorrow) in Hong Kong International School. On top of that, our U14 Girls Basketball Team will fight for the gold medal on 14 February. We wish our girls the best of luck in their matches!
Mr Cross reminded our students that only school uniforms are acceptable to be worn in school. Although the weather is getting colder, fashion clothes are not allowed in school.
EDUCATION UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG TRAINEE TEACHERS VISIT TO MANDARIN DEPARTMENT
On Thursday, we had a group of trainee teachers from the Education University of Hong Kong visiting our Mandarin department. As well as observing lessons, they had a lecture and Q&A session with Juan Cai, our Head of Mandarin. We have a strong relationship with the Education University of Hong Kong, who are keen for their students to see high quality teaching in action. As always, we are very proud of our excellent teachers.
