We offer two types of EAL support. The first kind, intensive EAL, is for students still mastering the basics of the language. There are two strands of intensive EAL. The first, or base level, is for pupils who are very new to the language. This class begins with the simplest of sentences and vocabulary and expands to teach reading and writing in English.
The second, or core level, is for students with some proficiency of written and spoken English but who still need some academic support, particularly in the area of literacy.
After progressing through the program and achieving the required level of listening, speaking, reading and writing is reached, students leave Intensive EAL. Each student’s progress is tracked so that you progress from intensive EAL support, once targets are reached.
The second type of EAL support runs parallel to, and replaces, regular English lessons. While continuing to develop the building blocks of the language, you will follow a modified English National Curriculum programme. We have similar learning objectives and follow similar activities to the mainstream English classes but work at a pace suited to EAL students.
