Following the English National Curriculum, Key Stage 1 in our Primary School spans Years 1 and 2. During Year 1, we build upon children’s previous learning in the six areas of the
Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
We then teach the children key areas like guided reading, phonics, and mental maths, and we place strong emphasis on core skills in numeracy and literacy. Our teachers allow each child to work through fundamental building blocks.
We group subjects such as science; history; geography; art; design; technology; personal, social, health and citizenship education (PSHCE); information and communication technologies (ICT); music and physical education (PE) into topics. Our teachers plan themes that reflect the interests of the children in each class, and they create a balance between creative and physical activities.
Learning outside of the classroom is an important part of our children’s growth, and we support and enhance this through trips, visits, whole-school events, themed days, extracurricular activities, and creative productions.
