Book Week in Primary School

NAIS Al Khor_Qatar_2020_148

Teachers across the Primary School are busy preparing for this year’s Book Week, which will run from Sunday 26 February to Thursday 2 March.

“There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours you haven’t started wondering about yet.” – James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl

We have decided to run a Roald Dahl theme this year with all classes in Years 2 to 6 exploring one of his famous books. There were huge celebrations across Wales on 13 September 2016 as Roald Dahl would have turned 100 years old, making it his centenary. Roald Dahl is known for his hugely popular children's books, like "Matilda," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "The BFG" and "James and the Giant Peach." His writing career spanned six decades. It is estimated that around 200 million copies of his books have been sold globally and his works are available in 58 languages. If you would like to learn more about the famous children’s novelist, please visit the official Dahl website.

On Thursday 2 March, we will be celebrating World Book Day as we come together as a school to CELEBRATE the pleasure of reading. This will be the 20th World Book Day and is the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world. As well as exciting classroom activities, an outdoor assembly, Readathon and competitions, Primary School students are invited to come to school on this day dressed as a character from the Roald Dahl book they are reading or as a character from one of his other books (you will be spoiled for choice!). Book Week has always been one of our students’ favourite themed weeks and we have no doubt that this year’s will be just as memorable.

Tomorrow, we will be launching our ‘Get Caught Reading’ competition, which will run until Wednesday 1 March. To enter the competition, Primary School children need to ‘Get Caught Reading’ in unusual locations. They will need to ask a family member or friend to take a photograph of them. Once snapped, please send it through email to Patrick.McBean@nais.qa. All entries will be posted on our school Facebook page with the winners announced on Thursday 2 March!
