Another exciting football tournament has recently taken place with teams from different schools converging on Brookes Moscow for a soccer showdown. The competition was indeed fierce, heated and full of moments to remember. However, there can only be one winner!

On Saturday the 1st of December 2018, eleven of our year four, five and six students eagerly awaited the start to the invitational football tournament at Brookes International School. There were four teams entered into the tournament, allowing each team to play each other twice, resulting in a final between the top two. The schools involved included ourselves, Brookes Moscow, The International School of Tomorrow and Hinkson Christian Academy.

The entire team showed admirable spirit and determination in every situation throughout the tournament and it was a pleasure to see such great teamwork in action. However, what really made us proud was their honourable display of sportsmanship. They had such a positive attitude during and after every single game; win or lose.

The team had a very strong start to the tournament, always moving forward to maintain pressure on their opponents to minimises their time on the ball. Their consistency paid off, winning the first three games against all teams 2-0, with some great assists and goals from Ilya, Khaya, Timur and Santi. The defence acted as a impenetrable wall in front of Omar, our goalkeeper, keeping the opponents’ chances few and far between.

On starting the second round of matches, the team maintained the same level of intensity, aiming to increase their lead by even more. The opposing teams had raised their games, which pushed ISM to show great resilience. It was great to see everyone enthusiastic and courageous, showing no signs of giving up, even when facing defeat. They managed to score a last minute equaliser which boosted  confidence and earnt vital points. The second game proved to be a tough one, beginning with a fantastic strike from the opposition. Unfortunately, this was enough to seal the win for them and a hard fought match left us with our first loss of the tournament. The team undoubtedly bounced back in the final game, leaving no questions as to whether they would take part in the final.

The final was against the only team that had managed to beat us in the tournament and was a true test of our team’s character. We had a huge amount of support from parents and friends. However, in the end it was the team who shook themselves of any nerves and controlled the game in style. They put in an incredible last performance to cruise into first place, including three impressive goals that could easily be crowned goals of the tournament.

Regardless of the result, everyone in the team deserved first place that day for all of their hard work and effort. They played the entire tournament in good spirit and, most importantly, as a team. As the final whistle blew, ISM were crowned champions.

Our thanks go out to all of the parents that spent their Saturday supporting their children and our school. This was massively appreciated.

Last but certainly not least, thank you and congratulations to all the students who were involved. You have done yourselves and ISM very proud. We look forward to future tournaments!
