Madinat Khalifa Secondary School Students Showcase Creativity and Teamwork in "We Will Rock You" Musical Production

The students at Madinat Khalifa (MK) Secondary School have been working hard to develop their skills in dance, drama, and music under the guidance of teachers trained by The Juilliard School. On February 21st and 22nd, they had the opportunity to showcase their talents in a spectacular performance of "We Will Rock You".

With around 40 students from years 7 to 13 involved in the production, the musical was a testament to the creativity and teamwork of the students and teachers involved. Students worked both on and off stage, with some performing in lead roles, while others worked front of house, backstage, or on sound and lighting.

As a Juilliard school, the focus is on promoting the performing arts and encouraging students to develop their confidence through performance. The production of "We Will Rock You" was a prime example of how students can benefit from the Juilliard collaboration and the specialist lessons they receive from their teachers.

Miss Kelly Mordecai, the Director of Performing Arts, and Miss Page, Teacher of Science, co-directed the hit musical, with the help of the facilities team and IT technicians who worked tirelessly to prepare the stage and handle the technical side of the production.

The production of "We Will Rock You" was initially planned for November 2022 but was postponed due to the FIFA World Cup interrupting school hours. Despite the setback, the students and teachers worked hard to pick up rehearsals again in January and fully prepare for the February performances, after an eight-week break in rehearsals.

Overall, the "We Will Rock You" musical production was a huge success and a testament to the hard work, dedication, and talent of the students and teachers at MK Secondary School. The Juilliard collaboration has clearly played a vital role in developing the students' performance skills and promoting their love for the performing arts. We can't wait to see what they will produce next!
