OUR GIFT TO YOU!
On Sunday 26 March 2017, The Netherlands Ambassador, Her Excellency Dr. Bahia Tahzib-Lie, will open the Money Week (in Dutch: “Week van het Geld”) for the Dutch students.
The “Week van het Geld” initiative was launched seven years ago by Her Highness Queen Máxima of The Netherlands.
The goal of this week is to teach children how to deal with money in a responsible manner. During this week, many activities will take place in classrooms. Financial professionals provide (on request) free guest lectures and workshops in primary schools throughout The Netherlands.
This is the first time the “Week van het Geld” is being organized in Qatar. Members of the Dutch Business Council Qatar will teach 5 classes of Dutch students that follow Dutch language lessons via LanguageOne Doha.
Her Excellency Dr. Bahia Tahzib-Lie: “It is of the utmost importance that young children learn how to deal with money, and understand the importance of saving. This is the first time we are organizing this in Qatar, we hope that as of next year also all the other schools in Qatar will participate”.
The Dutch Business Council of Qatar was immediately positive when asked to participate, says Henk Jan Hoogendoorn, Chairman of the council. “Many of our members have participated in the past (in The Netherlands), and it’s great to see how eager children are to learn about money”.
Monica Mansveld, local director of LanguageOne Doha, is happy to see that the children learn how money, that children have saved or worked for, also can help others. “We are organizing a charity ice-skating event on the 1st of April in Villaggio Mall. Our students will be raising money for Paws Rescue animal shelter in Qatar. The “Week van het Geld” is an important project that helps and raise awareness of what children can do with their money.”
