At the end of a very long term, it was wonderful to see so many talented musicians in our annual music competition. The standard of finalists was higher than ever before and I am so pleased that I wasn’t one of the judges who had the unenviable job of choosing a winner from each category.
The winner was, in the intermediate category Mai Khanh of 9S performing Sonata in Bb by Mozart and in the advanced competition was Viet Ha in 10B performing ‘Etude (Forest Murmurs)’ by Liszt.
My thanks to Mrs Metcalfe-Smith for organising the competition, and to Mr Tran Duy Nam, Jazz Piano lecturer at the Academy of Music, Ms Le Thi Quynh, professional cellist, and Mrs Richards, our own Performing Arts Lead, for being our judges.
Today we had our termly celebration assembly - a chance to celebrate all the brilliant things that our students and staff have been doing since Christmas.
We saw the achievements of the students who have recently taken part in the NAE Performing Arts Festival, and the Year 9 and Year 10 students that have acted as music mentors to Year 4 students who have taken up an instrument for the first time. We applauded Year 7 dancers and Year 9 and 12 bands, who performed for us. We were able to congratulate all the students who have done so well in the Accelerated Reader programme, and proven that they could read at least a million words.
We heard about all the great things that have been undertaken by the Student Parliament, and admired the work of our artists in the Nord Anglia Global Campus Visual Arts competition, and our own school Photography Competition. We watched a very moving video that the students made of their visits to the Operation Smile clinic in Hanoi, and congratulated all of our athletes for their achievements in the Hanoi Activities Conference Sports and the Fobisia Games. We were also delighted to be able to present Mrs MacIver with her Master’s Degree Certificate through the Nord Anglia collaboration with King’s College London.
The last job of the day was to reveal the final clue to the Great BVIS Easter Egg Hunt. All week, students have been given clues as to where the Easter bunny had hidden the eggs - and finally the password that was needed to access the location was given. A little bit of fun with a British Easter tradition to end the term.
Finally, I want to wish all of our Year 11, 12 and 13 students the very best of luck as they go into the holiday with the prospect of the IGCSE and A level exams starting on the very first day of next term. Good luck to all of you and I hope that your Easter holiday revision goes really well.
