The competition officially started on November 19th at the Yale University. It can be described as a busy day and the hardest day of the competition for all the Scholars. The three teams were facing a huge challenge today, as they are in the Senior/Open round which means they are competing against Scholars aged 16 and 17 years! 'Although they were understandably a little intimidated, they rose to the occasion and have done themselves and BVIS extremely proud', said Ms. Kirstin McKie , BVIS Hanoi Head of Media Studies.
Phong, Dieu Linh and Nathan’s team, and Bang Linh, Ha An and Ly’s team, each won one out of three debates - an amazing achievement as the standard of debate today was immensely high. Khanh Minh, Duc Anh and Nhat Minh, were pipped to the post in their debates, but the judges were impressed by how well they performed against the much older students. Remember, to even get to the Tournament of Champions is incredible - they are in the top 1000 of 35,000 students from the best schools around the world.
The students are relaxing at the hotel this evening, before another full WSC day tomorrow, with the Scholar’s Bowl and the Scholar’s talent show. They are relishing the fact they are in the Senior/Open round rather than the Juniors, and are continuing to capitalise on the opportunity to make new friends from all corners of the planet. They are a joy to be around.
The World Scholar's Cup (WSC) is an international team academic program with students participating from over 82 countries. The competition was founded in 2006, having attracted what it calls "a global community of future scholars and leaders", and promotes that it allows participants to "discover strengths and skills you never knew you had." It focuses on bringing students from different cultures together to discuss issues and ideas relevant to today. In order to participate in the Final round at Yale University, BVIS students have won the national and regional debates (taking place in Malaysia this June). Over the past 12 years, WSC has been considered as an reliable world-wide forum where talents and future leaders prove their outstanding performance and are accredited by many world-leading universities.
