The Early Years parents attended a workshop on reading on the first day back after the Tet holidays. The session was well attended and allowed parents to see what was involved when teaching reading at this young age. They went away with ideas on how best to support their child at home, websites links and APPs to encourage reading and storytelling particularly when they may not have many books at home.

In the classrooms all the classes focused on different authors and characters from the stories from Julia Donaldson in F3, to the Mr Men in F2 and Eric Carle in F1. The children have been immersed in these new books and authors all week and they all agreed that they enjoyed learning about the different characters in the stories.
On Wednesday all the children were involved in some shared reading with the Year 4 children who came over to the Early Years. The children paired up with the older boys and girls and found somewhere comfortable to sit and share books. Everyone was very nervous about meeting new people but they soon overcame this as they had a common interest in sharing the good books together. The time they spent together encouraged them to be more confident around new people and it allowed them time to ask questions and practise using their book knowledge. It was a really successful morning definitely something that the Early Years would like to continue doing in the future.
We will continue to enjoy reading and learning about different authors and the stories they write throughout the year.
Please don’t forget if you have a child in F3 that they now have access to Bug Club a free resource for you to use online purchased by the school. You can access this by following this link; https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk
Please look in your child’s diary/ communication book for their username and password.
