Secondary Weekly Update 17/11/2017 from Mr. Nick Lee

As I mentioned in last week’s letter, we welcomed the CIS and WASC accreditation teams to school this week. This was to see if as a school we have met the standards for CIS Accreditation. Although we will not find out the results of this before I write I have received lots of very positive comments from the visitors about the Secondary school, and the welcoming nature of all staff and students.

It was lovely to see many parents attending the fourth parent workshop of the year on Wednesday evening. This workshop, led by Mr Waldron, Head of Computer Science, focused on how we use Google Classroom in lessons, to support and enhance learning in all of our subjects. It also looked at how parents can support their children with this, and understand how they receive feedback on their work. Thank you to Mr Waldron and Chi Nguyen for facilitating this workshop.

Our World Scholar's Cup teams returned back from Yale this week. They had been competing in the Tournament of Champions final all week, and gained much success. Amongst the successes, we got silver medals in the Scholars' Bowl competition, and Dung won a gold medal for the Junior Debating Competition, He also won a silver medal for the Literature section, with Hoseong winning gold in history, and Long Bao winning gold for Science.

This is an amazing set of results considering this is the first year we have ever entered the World Scholar's Cup, and my congratulations to all the students who took part on their successes. My thanks also go to Ms Bower for accompanying the teams, and Mr Anderson and Bao Anh, in Year 13, for their work on preparing the team, with Ms Bower, prior to them leaving.

We also had a very successful Year 9 IGCSE options evening on Tuesday, and we welcome the Year 11 Parents and students for the International A Level options evening next week.

On Monday 20th November, our students will join with other young people globally to celebrate World Children’s Day by raising their voices in solidarity with some of the most vulnerable children in the world. This year will be a #kidstakeover and our students will be engaging with Nord Anglia students from across the world, via Twitter, to discuss issues affecting children today, and seeking solutions to some of these issues. I’m very much looking forward to seeing it develop over the day.

This Friday,  Ms Thuong,  our Vietnamese Humanities Teacher, organised a student-led assembly celebrating Teachers' Day. It was a brilliant assembly, full of heartfelt messages of thanks, and a lot of humour. I would like to add here my thanks to all my staff for the huge amount of effort they put in day after day to develop engaging, exciting and inspirational learning experiences for all of our students. I cannot thank them enough for their efforts.

I hope you all have a good week ahead.
