The BSY community came together on Thursday, November 16th, for a spectacular International Day celebration that embraced our rich tapestry of diversity. Parents, students, and staff were all involved in highlighting the unique nationalities and cultures within our school.
The festivities kicked off with a lively Parade of Nations, where each class represented their chosen country. Diverse flags and national dress were in abundance, setting the stage quite literally for an afternoon of cultural exploration.
The packed BSY theatre was then treated to seven incredible performances. From singing and dancing to a jaw-dropping traditional elephant dance and impressive Taekwondo displays, the exceptional talents of our performers were much appreciated by the lively audience.
The Great Hall was transformed into a global showcase, thanks to members of our fantastic parent community who set up tables representing their nationalities. These tables featured traditional art, music, and mouth-watering dishes that delighted the senses. Not to be outdone, each class contributed to the cultural extravaganza by setting up tables for the countries their class had chosen to represent, creating a delightful blend of cultures and flavors.
Principal Alison Fox shared her thoughts on the event, saying, "International Day at BSY is a true reflection of the value of an international education. It provides our community with a unique opportunity to come together, share our cultures, and celebrate the richness of diversity. This year, the BSY community truly excelled, delivering an extraordinary International Day that was enjoyed by all.”
The event not only celebrated our diverse backgrounds but also emphasized the importance of fostering a global perspective in education. International Day served as a reminder that by embracing our differences, we create a stronger, more connected community.
As laughter, music, and the aroma of delicious food filled the school, it was clear that International Day 2023 at BSY was a resounding success.
Last year marked an exciting chapter for the British School Yangon as we launched our first MIT challenges, designed to push the boundaries of learning by encouraging students to dive deep into hands-on, collaborative problem-solving. From Early Years to Year 10, students engaged in challenges that stimulated their curiosity, sharpened their critical thinking, and connected classroom knowledge to real-world applications. What started as an initiative has now become a defining feature of our curriculum.
We are excited to share a significant milestone in our journey: The British School Yangon (BSY) has officially received accreditation from the Council of British International Schools (COBIS). This prestigious recognition highlights our unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality education that aligns with British standards.
