The British International School of Washington is proud to recognize the remarkable achievements of our students who took the 2021 International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exams.
96% of students achieved A*-C.
80% of students achieved A*-B.
62% of students achieved A*-A.
Also, 94% of the students achieved 5A*-C. This includes scores in both English and Maths.
Moreover, we would like to congratulate students who took early IGCSE exams in advance of Year 11 and achieved notable results. Impressively, out of the eleven Year 10 students who sat Maths early, all received passing results and nine students achieved an A* in Maths.
These great numbers were the result of the hard work and dedication of the students but also the teachers and families. The students made these incredible strides forward despite a year of obstacles caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The IGCSE gives students a chance to pursue standard and elective courses that are academically challenging and in line with the students’ personal goals and interests. Over two years, IGCSE students study ten subjects across core subjects, including arts and design, humanities, languages, sciences, social sciences, and mathematics.
Our school leaders work with the students to identify courses that could make them successful in their future endeavours at our school and beyond. We use the IGCSE as a foundation for another two-year programme, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), which students complete in Years 12 and 13.
By offering the IGCSE here in Washington, DC, our school provides much-needed preparation for students who wish to pursue further academic studies in places that emphasize the need for this curriculum. It is just one more way BISW stands out from the crowd. Learn more about the IGCSE here.
