BISS to Welcome Juilliard Specialists

This week, BISS Puxi is excited to welcome Ashley Eichbauer Newman, our Juilliard Dance Curriculum Specialist. Ashley will be arriving from New York City and will join our PE Team and BISS Lions School of Performing Arts Team for some professional development within Dance. BISS staff will be observing Ashley deliver lessons to BISS students and Ashley will also observe the BISS staff, providing feedback to ensure that the standard of Dance being taught at BISS is world class from Pre-Nursery to Year 11. Ashley will be on campus from Wednesday 8 November to Friday 10 November.

More about Ashley:

Ashley Eichbauer Newman is a dancer, choreographer, and educator. In 2007, she was a founding member of The Chase Brock Experience and currently serves as the company’s Director of Education & Engagement. With The Chase Brock Experience she has danced extensively throughout New York City and toured around the country. Other professional performance credits include Paper Mill Playhouse (NJ), Pittsburgh CLO (PA), Baltimore Center Stage (MD), Broadway Palm (FL), and Busch Gardens Williamsburg (VA). She has choreographed at Temple University, Barnard College and Molloy College. Ashley was finalist on the 3rd season of the TV show So You Think You Can Dance. She was the assistant choreographer and animation reference for the video game Dance on Broadway for Wii & PlayStation Move. Ashley is featured in the documentary, Chasing Dance. Since 2006, Ashley has been on the faculty of CAP21, teaching students from NYU and Molloy College. She is a graduate of NYU with a B.F.A. in Theatre and double major in History and and earned her M.S. Ed. in Middle School General and Special Education from Bank Street College of Education. Since 2014, Ashley has been a Teaching Artist for Lincoln Center Education. Ashley is a Dance Curriculum Specialist for Juilliard Global K-12 and is also a certified Vinyasa yoga teacher.

Next week, BISS Puxi is excited to welcome Aurea Tomeski, our Juilliard Drama Curriculum Specialist. Aurea will be arriving from New York City and will join our Performing Arts Team for some professional development within Drama. BISS staff will be observing Aurea deliver lessons to BISS students and Aurea will also observe the BISS staff, providing feedback to ensure that the standard of Drama being taught at BISS is world class. She will also lead a whole school staff workshop on the power of questioning and reflection in lessons. Aurea will be on campus from Tuesday 14 November to Wednesday 15 November.

During Aurea’s visit, she will also take time to meet with our parents to run a Drama Workshop on Wednesday 15 November from 9.00am-10.30am in Stage One. Parents who are interested in registering for the event should do so by completing the following form.

During the workshop we will cover:

• How Drama supports the development of essential life skills.
• Our collaboration with The Juilliard School and how it enriches student experiences in Performing Arts.
• A practical workshop led by Aurea Tomeski.
• How The Juilliard School’s approach to classroom instruction fits into our wider Drama curriculum.
• The key learning outcomes from Drama and Theatre in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

Originally from South Florida, Aurea is a New York based actor, producer, and teaching artist. She holds a B.S. in Pre-Med/Psychology (NYU) and an M.F.A. in Acting (New School) and received additional training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She has performed with Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Lark, New York Stage and Film, Ars Nova, FringeNYC, New York Shakespeare Exchange, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, California Shakespeare Company, A Noise Within, and Human Race Theatre, and she has also appeared in national commercials, web-series, and independent films. Since 2015, Aurea has toured extensively across the United States performing Literature to Life's one-woman version of Lois Lowry’s classic young adult novel, The Giver. Marking her first foray into script development and playwriting, she recently completed a theatrical co-adaptation of the acclaimed autobiography The Latehomecomer, another Literature to Life touring title. She is a Drama Curriculum Specialist and Teaching Artist at The Juilliard School and has led numerous workshops centered around solo-storytelling and empowerment through personal narrative in under-served communities all over the world. Other selected teaching artist work includes: Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Young Audiences New York and Young Audiences Maryland. As a producer, Aurea is passionate about bringing original, socially-conscious work to the forefront. She functioned as the lead producer for Wide Eyed Productions’ FIRST AMENDMENT PROJECT, featuring three original commissioned one-act plays inspired by the First Amendment, with proceeds going to the ACLU. She is the Associate Artistic Producer of Writopia Lab’s Worldwide Plays Festival, which annually showcases original plays written by children from all over the country. Aurea is proud to volunteer as an artist-mentor at The 52nd Street Project. She is also a certified running coach and Director of Program Development at Run4Fun International, a non-profit organization focused on the interplay of exercise and mental health in youth.
