On Saturday 14 October, twenty students set off to compete in the annual CISSA Cross Country Cross River Event. The event was attended by international schools from across Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou, with over 200 students participating.
The first category to race was the Juniors (Years 5-7) running 3 km. Our team consisted of three girls and eleven boys, and they ran admirably, with Lana Grant taking 1st place in a time of 13 minutes and 14 seconds.
The second category was the Seniors (Years 8-9) running 4 km. Our team consisted of three boys and one girl. Again, the team ran very well, with Juul Loos claiming 1st place in a time of 14 minutes and 6 seconds and Darren Li taking 4th in a time of 15 minutes and 26 seconds.
The last event of the day was the 'High School' event, and our sole entrants were Jake Bollard and Jaky Yip. They ran a steady pace, placing 7th and 8th , crossing the line together.
I would like to give a special mention to Ms Dawn Ross for her support in running the ECA, and the guidance she provided students with on the day. Also, a special mention to Jaden Chen, who supported his fellow BISS students after he had completed his race and ran alongside them to encourage a strong finish.
All in all, a fantastic day out for all, and I hope to see this programme grow next year.
