First on our whistlestop tour was the popular M50 Art Street. This district is in central Shanghai, on the banks of Suzhou Creek, and was once the site of industrial textile production. The students visited local artist studios and immersed themselves in the eclectic mix of digital art ‘metaverse’, AI, furniture, ceramics, and traditional Chinese paintings. The studios are surrounded by unique foliage, playful decoration and street art.
Next, Tianzifang, a traditional alley originally constructed in the 1930s with shikumen residential houses. In 1998, the road was just a small street hidden in Dapuqiao District used as a street market. Here the students explored the laneways and took a range of photos of the shop fronts and traditional structures. A great day had by all and such wonderful photographs for you to enjoy!
