U11 Netball Tournament – A team

It was an exciting but nerve racking experience for the netball team. In the first match against BISS Pudong we won 6 – 1. Then we played against Dulwich Suzhou, luckily we won 7-1. Finally we played against Dulwich Shanghai and sadly we lost 6-3. All the netball teams got together and then the person in charge told us who made the play offs. We had to play for 1^st or 2^nd place against Dulwich Shanghai again. This time we were really really nervous but some of our team members kept us in a positive position. Even though we lost, we were still second and very content and proud. Please congratulate: Ada, Sofia Hansen, Pelin Tuglan, Lowa Torstensson, Eric Fleck-Baustian, Julie Petermans and Jocelyn Chok.

U11 Netball Tournament – B team

Once everybody had arrived at school, we got on the bus ready to go to BISS Pudong. The A team and the B team were both really excited for the finals.

Once we arrived at Pudong we warmed up and got ready for our first game against Dulwich Suzhou; we won 5-2. We had three more games to go, hoping we would win all of them. Our second match was against BISS Pudong, we won 3-1. We really had our hopes up at that time! Then the 3^rd game is the one we lost (3-2) against Dulwich Suzhou… but we weren’t going to give up, and we didn’t. We tied our last game! The score was 2-2.

Without expecting to play a 5^th game –the game to see which teams come in which places- the netball B team won 3-0 against BISS Pudong, which led us to become 3^rd place from all the B teams! We won a bronze trophy to represent our school. Everybody in the B team also received a bronze medal!

We got back to our school, proud to have competed in the netball final tournament!

CISSA C2 Volleyball

The CISSA C2 girls’ volleyball team had an early start for the journey to SAS Pudong on Saturday morning. Although we had only been training for a mere six weeks the excitement was high and our determination to come away with some victories was even higher! We had five fixtures across the course of the day against a selection of well drilled volleyball teams - I set the squad the challenging target of two wins.

We got off to a slow start with two losses, however, the points deficit was marginal - we needed to get that win under our belts. Our final three fixtures saw us gain two dominant wins; there was some excellent volleyball on show. Our final game saw a narrow 25 - 20 loss to one of the stronger teams in our draw.

It is easy to forget that such a short time ago most of the girls had had relatively little volleyball experience and certainly very little experience when it came to competing against other schools. The squad has grown from strength to strength, and as I keep reminding them, most of the game takes place in their heads - they have to be confident in their ability and believe. Their performances on the court have certainly shown me that and it's safe to say that the future of volleyball at BISS Puxi has great potential - a special mention to Carel in 8I. I have taken great pleasure and pride in teaching and supporting this group of athletes and hope it spurs them on to continue taking part in as many sports as they can!

CISSA C1 Volleyball

This weekend the C1 girls’ volleyball team attended the end of season tournament at Concordia. The girls were looking forward to this tournament because they have grown very strong over the past couple of weeks and were keen to put their training into practice. They started off a little nervously, but after some really good rallies they gained confidence, which was shown through the great services, nice three touches and steady digs. Every match was very exciting and thrilling till the end. We won against Dulwich and SCIS, but unfortunately we could not beat BISS Pudong although it was a very close score.

The girls had so much fun and I was proud to be their coach!

D1 boys’ Under 19 Football

With four games in five days on the horizon we were excited about the prospects of building on our great start to the season.

We never really needed to strain ourselves in a 5-1 win over SAS Puxi 2^nd team on Tuesday, with goals coming from midfield and forward positions.  Our defence was organised and efficient. Friday was the big game of the weekend, our 4th league game of the season vs SAS Puxi 1^st team and we struggled to field a full strength side due to injuries and illnesses. However, our ability to apply skills to an altered formation allowed us to never find ourselves under any real pressure and we simply maintained focus and structure, taking our chances when we were able to force opportunities. Our discipline and energy were both outstanding, particularly due to not having our usual Goal Keeper playing.

Saturday saw us facing SAS Pudong and Concordia. Fortunately we were able to draft in some of Mr Lewis’ squad to fill the gaps from the previous day and once again we outperformed the opposition in every area.  Our commitment to focussing on playing our style of inventive, free flowing football, built on a solid defence gave very few chances to our opposition.  Once again we were clinical when attacking and ended up victorious by margins of 2-0 and 1-0 respectively. 

We keep going from strength to strength.
