Open Days
On Thursday 26 September, students in our secondary school celebrated the European Day of Languages with a special focus this year on Russian!
The day began with a form time quiz for Years 7 to 10 to see how much students already knew about Russia and its language.
In their MFL lessons, students in Years 7 to 9 had the opportunity to learn how to introduce themselves in Russian and to recognise some letters from the Cyrillic alphabet.
In their Drama lessons, students in Years 8 studied an adapted version of The Government Inspector, by the nineteenth-century Russian playwright Nicolay Gogol, while Year 11 students worked on a scene study from the same play. In English, students in Years 7 and 9 learned some facts about some famous Russian authors and had the opportunity to analyse some Russian advertisements, and in Mathematics, students in Years 8 and 9 learned some ‘Peasant’ multiplication! Finally, in their humanities lessons, students in Year 9 learned about some aspects of Russia’s fascinating geography and history.
