FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is the purpose of the application fee?
The application fee covers the administrative cost of your child’s assessment. With almost 1,000 enquiries for school places each year, the fee also allows us to identify those parents who are most committed to sending their children to our school.
  • How long does The British International School Shanghai, Puxi admissions process take?
From getting in touch with our admissions team to the offer of a place, the BISS Puxi admissions process shouldn't take longer than two weeks. This does, however, depend on how quickly you're able to complete our online form and provide the necessary application information.
  • Is the process different if my company pays the fees?
Our aim is to make the process as simple as possible for you, our families. If your company is paying your child’s school fees, our admissions and finance teams will liaise directly with them, allowing you to concentrate on your child’s education and wellbeing.
  • Is there a waiting list?
Possibly, it depends on the year group you’re applying to join. The BISS Puxi admissions team will let you know if there is a waitlist or not, and the likelihood a place will become available for your chosen start date.
  • Can my child start in the middle of a term?
Yes, absolutely. You can apply to join us at any time – we accept new students all year round. That said, we advise new families to try and enrol their child at the start of the school year (every August) if possible. This way, they won’t miss vital teaching and learning time.
  • Are children assessed as part of The British International School Shanghai, Puxi admissions process?
Yes, every child sits an assessment. The type of assessment depends on the age of your child. Our Early Years students, for example, take part in an in-class observation, while prospective Secondary students sit English and Maths tests. Your family may also be invited to an interview with the Head of Primary or Secondary (which can be done either in person or online).
