Our inaugural Elementary Science Olympiad team medaled in nine of 12 events at its first competition! The children competed against seven teams in events that challenged their knowledge of anatomy, aerodynamics, biology and more.
Science Olympiad (SO) is a nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education. SO puts on a series of rigorous academic competitions throughout the year, which require understanding of science concepts, process skills and science applications.

Mystery Architecture – Build a mystery device out of an assortment of materials
Science Password – Team partners give verbal clues and correctly guess science vocabulary
Aerodynamics – Build a paper airplane with specific objectives
Metric Mastery – Estimate and then accurately measure various objects in metric quantities
Rockhound – Showcase knowledge about important and common rocks and minerals
A is for Anatomy – Showcase knowledge about specific human body systems
Backyard Biologist – Showcase knowledge about common Illinois animals/birds/insects/etc.
Crimebusters – Identify simple powders from their physical properties
Junk Cars – Build the farthest rolling four-wheeled vehicle out of an assortment of "junk" materials
