With summer break beginning, now is the time for families to think about ways to keep their children’s minds active while they are out of the classroom.

Head of School Gabriella Rowe sat down with NBC Houston in-studio, and provided easy tips to turn any summer activity into a learning experience. Here are a few ideas that will help keep young minds active the next few months:

  • Staying Home?
    • Make a summer bucket list. Create a poster and divide into sections, with each section detailing a trip to a local attraction. Then, staple plastic bags to each section and add items from the visit (i.e. museum brochures, rocks from the park, etc.) so that come August, you will have chronicled your summer experience.
  • Traveling to Galveston?
    • Collect seashells and learn about classification
    • If you're heading to the mountains, you can do the same with leaves
  • Traveling Abroad?
    • Take photos throughout your trip and make a story book once you're back home. Write the story together as a family.
  • Not Traveling?
    • Visit the library! Read together and discuss comparisons from the reading.
