The latest activity, the Curiosity Challenge, was inspired by MIT researchers and scientists, and asked students what topics make them question and wonder. Following through with their curiosity, students explored topics across disciplines, from web design and baking, to service animals, and even creating the next Mars rover.
A whole-school vote uncovered that students found the question “Is life real or a simulation?” the most thought-provoking. So, students across the school united to create a display that represents their collective curiosity. They decided on a theme of “Alice in Wonderland”, which draws on humans’ captivation with the ideas of reality and make-believe.
The piece features Alice and the Mad Hatter (Year 9 students Vivian and Simon) with an oversized book enjoying a tea party in the forest. On the book, there is a poem written by two Year 12 students, Madeline and Theo, as well as photos of curiosity projects by Primary and Secondary students. Year 10 students Cole and Jack demonstrated their creative flair and mastery of Photoshop by merging the green screen photos and real projects.
Well done to our students in their first MIT Challenge! The final piece is powerful and creative.
