Situated in the South Loop neighborhood of Chicago, our school is conveniently located near renowned cultural landmarks…like Chinatown! Recently, High School Mandarin students visited Chinatown to explore Chinese culture, cuisine and language.
They first sat down for a delicious meal at one of the many famed Chinatown restaurants. After browsing the menu, they ordered their food in Mandarin, a fantastic demonstration of their ability to use the language in real life situations. Then they set off for a walking tour of the area. Stops included the Chinatown Public Library, where they flipped through the large collection of Chinese cookbooks; Chinatown Square, home to a series of Chinese zodiac statues; and the marketplace.
The students immersed themselves in Chinese culture by visiting new places, stretching their language skills and digging into new foods.
