Primary Basketball Teams Race to Three Wins The 2016 Primary Basketball Season is well underway, and the Girls and Boys Teams had great success in Week 2!

Boys Team

With the 2016 Primary Basketball season underway, the Boys Team started Week 2 with a 34-8 victory over St. Sylvester to help maintain their undefeated record. Uzair was the star performer with 10 points, three rebounds, four steals and four assists. Together the boys played with improved organization on the defensive end, commanding rebounds and playing at pace on the fast break. There were impressive performances from Haile who collected four points and seven rebounds, and Michael who secured a game high of six points.

In their Thursday game against Catherine Cook, the boys fought hard but suffered their first loss of the season. They battled to come back from an 18-point deficit, playing with organization, pace and composure. Going into half time, the team was down just four points. Catherine Cook played outstanding team basketball in the second half, moving the ball and hitting three open three-point attempts to extend their lead to 13 points. The Bulldogs answered with some positive drives from Mikey and two three-pointers from Uzair. We put on a good performance against a very tall, athletic and well drilled side.

Girls Team

Following the season opener against BISC Lincoln Park last week, the Primary Girls Basketball Team has shown excellent signs of progression in practice sessions. They've focused on their offensive play and teamwork, leading to their first win of the season on Tuesday versus St. Sylvester, 21-12. It was a true team effort, with every player demonstrating solid skills on the court. Francesca and Chloe gave outstanding performances, scoring the majority of points and also being particularly strong with defensive rebounds. Caterina scored two baskets in quick succession after some one-on-one practice with Year 7 student Georgia outside of school. Jane, Rania, Iman and Eva also showed excellent hustle on defense. Natalie and Sophia demonstrated fantastic progress with their defensive play and rebounds. Aria, a new addition to the team, showed great confidence on the ball. Great job, ladies!

For their second game of the week, the girls took on Catherine Cook. As expected, it was competitive from the tip, but the Bulldogs managed to score a six-point lead early on. Catherine Cook came back strong, and the score was level at the half, 14-14. Francesca had another excellent game, scoring 19 points, that helped lead us to a 31-24 victory! Chloe also gave an outstanding performance on defensive and offensive rebounds.

Both teams are now gearing up for their next game against Montessori School of Englewood March 8.
