Attend Our Open House
On the heels of four wins at the Middle School Mathematics Contest, our students reigned supreme at the MATHCOUNTS Competition on February 27.
MATHCOUNTS is a nonprofit organization that puts on fun, challenging math programs for middle school students, like the MATHCOUNTS Competition Series, to help expand their academic and professional opportunities.
The Chicago Chapter Competition was held at the CNA Building in downtown Chicago, where 120 students representing approximately 40 schools gathered for three hours of rigorous problem-solving. There were four rounds of competition in which participants answered a certain number of questions with varying time constraints, like 30 questions in 40 minutes.
Our 10 team members qualified to take part after achieving the highest scores in our School Competition held in January. We are so proud of Adam, Aoife, Devon, Emre, Fay-Ling, Josh, Julian, Lucas, Pablo and Sigourney.
In the end, the BISC team took home three awards and qualified to participate in the State Competition on March 19. We won second place in the private school section with great effort from Emre, Fay-Ling, Pablo and Sigourney. On top of this team success, Emre placed first in the private school section and achieved the highest overall score out of all competitors. These are incredible achievements, and all 10 BISC students played a role in our success.
We look forward to the upcoming State Competition and will be preparing all month during our MATHCOUNTS Club after school.
