Attend Our Open House
By Mrs. Rachel White-Hunt, Director of Music
There is a wonderful addition to our first-floor common area—a baby grand piano!
In the spirit of our collaboration with The Juilliard School, we installed the piano to promote cultural literacy, creativity, critical thinking and collaboration. Throughout the school day, students, teachers and parents are welcome to play away. With the piano, we are able to share performances on a whim develop our performance and keyboard skills amongst peers.
The effects of the piano have been profound. We’ve discovered fantastic musicians, especially staff and parents. The piano has also become a hub for social interaction, where students of all ages gather to get to know each other and enjoy listening and playing. The performances vary so much in style and genre, and have created all sorts of conversation amongst those listening. Passersby love the performances, too, often commenting on how relaxing it is to hear the piano carry through the school hallways.
We think the piano is a fantastic touch and demonstrates the pulse of music throughout our school, from our Juilliard collaboration to our new private lesson program with Juilliard alumni. BISC corridors are filled with music all the time!
