We are proud to announce that Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO) has placed Year 8 student Franklin Lurie in its Debut Orchestra program, which consists of some of the most talented and dedicated middle school musicians from the Chicago area. Throughout its season, the Debut Orchestra performs at venues such as Harris Theater, Chicago Cultural Center and Northwestern University’s Pick-Staiger Concert Hall.

Below is a note from Franklin about his extraordinary accomplishment.

“I've always had a passion for music and over the years have had the great pleasure and honor to study and learn from some of the best instructors. While I enjoy piano and drums, it's really the double bass that both intrigues and excites me. It’s intriguing because it is the hardest string instrument to learn and play, and I wanted to take on this challenge to further develop my own musical interests. It’s exciting because it is versatile, ranging from modern to jazz to classical, and also because of its range of pitch and sound. Through my lessons at BISC, I broadened my capabilities and was introduced to a plethora of music that I have found to be challenging to learn, but also pleasing and unique to my repertoire of music. I'm excited to be a part of my school orchestra but am looking forward to playing with the Debut Orchestra with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras. I am grateful to have the support and encouragement of the BISC Music Department, as the teachers continue to guide and instruct me with my string bass instrument.” – Franklin Lurie

Well done, Franklin!
